BIOGRAPHY

Classical guitarist Yoshi Oshima has studied with such notable artists as the late Celedonio Romero and his sons Celín and Pepe, members of the Royal Family of the Guitar. Under the tutelage of the Romero family, whose flawless technique has been dazzling audiences worldwide, Yoshi has mastered the Romero technique and excelled as a concert guitarist. Faithfully serving the Romeros as a disciple since the early 1990's, he now takes pride in performing exclusively on instruments made by Pepe Romero Jr.

He holds the Bachelor of Music Degree in classical guitar performance and graduated with Distinction in Music from San Diego State University, CA.

In addition to his concert engagements, Yoshi is a sought after English/Japanese interpreter in master classes and seminars by internationally renowned artists.


　　　破綻を知らない闊達な技巧と輝かしい音色を誇り、正統派スペイン・ギターの伝統を受け継ぐ「スペイン・ギターの王族」ロメロ・ファミリーの父親セレドニオ、長男セリン、次男ペペの各氏に師事しロメロ・テクニックを直々に学ぶ。米国にて10余年に及ぶ研鑽を積み、日本国内では唯一のロメロ技法継承者として至高のロメロ・テクニックを披露している。製作家として活躍する孫ペペJr.の作る楽器を現在は主に使用し、入門以来ロメロ一家とは三世代に亘り直接関わりを持ち一族以外では演奏される事の無いセレドニオ・ロメロ作の楽曲も得意とする。その演奏では楽曲・技法・解釈・楽器の全てにおいてロメロ一家との繋がりを体現できることに深い想い入れを抱く。

加えて大学時代にはLewis Peterman博士率いる古楽アンサンブルにてルネサンス～初期バロック時代の音楽を専門的に学び、特に16世紀スペイン宮廷音楽への造詣を深めた。中でも当時スペインのみで隆盛を極めた楽器：ビウエラの曲は現在でも主要レパートリーを成し、師セレドニオの作品と共に演奏会で弾く機会も多い。

2005年「愛知万博」ではスペイン館に常駐し会場を沸かせた他、国連パビリオンでの特別演奏にも招待された。
また来日音楽家による公開レッスン・講習会等の通訳としても好評を博している。
専門誌等に寄稿するなど執筆を通しロメロ一家の情報提供にも努め、2013年「セレドニオ・ロメロ　生誕100周年」 を記念してペペ・ロメロJr.作の楽器カタログ写真集を製作した。
